Frequently Asked Questions

About GameGuard
Who makes GameGuard™ boxes?
GameGuard™ is a product line created by Acrylic Alchemy. Every GameGuard box is designed, cut, assembled, and tested in-house in Australia. We are collectors ourselves, so we build the kind of display boxes we would trust with our own collections.
GameGuard boxes are designed to protect and display collectibles, especially PC big box games, console games, figures, statues, limited editions, and other collector items. They are built with long-term preservation in mind, not just appearance.
No. Each GameGuard box is made to order. We do not import or resell generic acrylic boxes. This allows for better fit, better materials, and more thoughtful design choices.
Materials and Construction
GameGuard boxes are made from premium cast acrylic chosen for high optical clarity, structural rigidity, low off-gassing, and long-term stability. Most boxes use 4.5 mm or 6.0 mm acrylic as standard, except for Small and Very Small sizes where thinner material is appropriate. Fortress grade boxes are made using conservation grade acrylic.
Protection and Preservation
Yes. All GameGuard boxes provide meaningful UV protection as standard. Most acrylic display boxes on the market use 3 mm acrylic, which offers basic UV reduction. GameGuard boxes use thicker acrylic as standard, which improves UV attenuation and slows long-term fading. For collectors seeking maximum protection, the Fortress build uses conservation-grade UV-filter acrylic capable of blocking approximately 99% of UV across the conservation band. No display box can eliminate light damage entirely, but GameGuard boxes significantly reduce UV exposure when used in sensible indoor lighting.
Yes. GameGuard boxes are designed to reduce dust entry and help protect against common pests such as booklice and silverfish, while still allowing controlled airflow. Passive venting helps stabilise humidity and reduce trapped VOCs under normal indoor conditions. Optional environmental protection add-ons are available.
Both. GameGuard boxes are designed to safely store collectibles while also being suitable for long-term display. You do not need to choose between protection and presentation.
Customisation and Engraving
Yes. you can customise the size, build type, and optional add-ons. You can also request engraving on any or all surfaces of the box, depending on the build type. Engravings may be vector engraved for clean line work, raster engraved for shaded or filled artwork, or a combination of both. This allows for logos, titles, labels, decorative designs, or subtle markings. If you have customisation ideas beyond what is available in-store, please contact us and we would be happy to discuss what is possible.
Using Your GameGuard Box
For safest handling, we recommend using the removable bottom where applicable. Clean and dry the inside of the box before inserting an item. Lower the item slowly and carefully, avoiding contact with edges. When removing an item, do not pull it out from the top. Remove the bottom and support the item from underneath while guiding it upward. This reduces the risk of accidental damage.
Avoid direct sunlight, heat sources, and areas with high or fluctuating humidity. Do not place the box in enclosed hot environments such as a car. GameGuard boxes are not waterproof and should never be submerged in water.
Cleaning, Care & Maintenance
For regular care, use a soft microfiber or polishing cloth to remove dust and fingerprints. Before wiping, we recommend using an air duster to remove loose particles and reduce the risk of micro-scratches. For deeper cleaning, use mild soapy water and a clean, lint-free cloth, then allow the surface to fully dry. Avoid paper towels or rough fabrics. Do not use alcohol, ammonia-based cleaners, acetone, or glass cleaner, as these can permanently damage acrylic. For best results, we recommend Novus acrylic care products, which are available in-store and designed specifically for acrylic display cases. Every GameGuard order includes a polishing cloth and a sample of Novus 1 and Novus 2.
Light scratches and surface marks can often be reduced or removed with proper acrylic polishing. Novus 1 is used for cleaning and restoring shine. Novus 2 is used for light scratches. Novus 3 is used for heavier scratches. For very deep scratches, high-grit wet sanding in the 4000 to 10,000 range may be required before polishing, followed by Novus 3, then Novus 2, and finally Novus 1. Full-size Novus products are available in-store if needed.
Orders, Shipping & Returns
If something is not right, we fix it. Every box is inspected before shipping. If damage occurs in transit, contact us with photos and we will work with you to resolve the issue.
Most GameGuard boxes are made to order, so returns are limited. If there is a workmanship issue or shipping damage, we will make it right. If you are unsure before ordering, please contact us first. We would rather help upfront than disappoint later.
